Privacy & cookie policy

Last updated: 2026-10-03. This policy explains how Dakem Equipment cc and Akane Training Academy ("we", "us") collect and protect your personal information, as required by the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

1. Who we are

This website is operated by Dakem Equipment cc, which trades with its training division, Akane Training Academy. We are the "responsible party" for personal information collected through this website.

2. What we collect

• Enquiry details you give us: your name, company, email address, phone number, what you need (training and/or equipment) and anything you write in the message box.
• Technical information: your IP address and browser details, used briefly to protect the enquiry form from spam and abuse.
• Cookies and similar technology: see section 8. Optional cookies are only used if you agree.

We do not knowingly collect special personal information or information about children through this website.

3. How we use it

• To respond to your enquiry, prepare quotes and arrange training or equipment supply (to take steps towards a contract you asked for).
• To protect this website and our systems from spam, fraud and abuse (our legitimate interest).
• With your consent only: to understand how the website is used (analytics) and to show our Facebook feed.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not send marketing emails unless you ask us to.

4. Who we share it with

We share information only with service providers who help us run this website and respond to you, under appropriate confidentiality and security terms:

• Our website and email hosting provider in South Africa.
• Cloudflare (website security and spam protection), if enabled.
• Google (Google Analytics), only if you accept analytics cookies.
• Meta (Facebook), only if you choose to load our Facebook feed.

Some of these providers process information outside South Africa. Where that happens we rely on providers bound by data-protection laws or agreements that give a level of protection similar to POPIA, as section 72 of POPIA requires.

5. How long we keep it

We keep enquiry information for up to two years after our last contact with you, or longer if it becomes part of a client record we must keep by law (for example, training records and invoices). Spam-protection logs are kept for no more than 30 days.

6. Security

The website uses encrypted connections (HTTPS), spam and abuse protection, restricted access to enquiry emails, and up-to-date hosting. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. If we become aware of a breach that affects you, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

7. Your rights

Under POPIA you may ask us to confirm whether we hold your personal information, to access it, to correct or delete it, or to object to its processing. You may withdraw consent for optional cookies at any time using Cookie settings. Email info@dakem.co.za to make a request.

If you are not happy with how we handle your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa): inforegulator.org.za, email enquiries@inforegulator.org.za.

8. Cookies

Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We group them into three categories and ask your permission for the optional ones the first time you visit.

You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings, or delete cookies in your browser settings.
